Piring Dance
  • The Piring (Saucer) Dance originated from Sumatera, specifically from the Rawa district.
  • It is performed during weddings, welcome ceremony for state dignitaries, public or village ceremonies.
  • It consists of various swinging movements as well as emphasizing on facial expressions.
  • Dancers wear a pair of rings that functioned as accessories as well as musical instruments. The rings produced sounds when they were tapped on the saucers in rhythm to the gong.
